The Story of the First American Overland Expedition to the Pacific Ocean comes Vividly to Life
Opens May 18, 2002 at Liberty Science Center's IMAX® Dome Theater

Jersey City, NJ - (April 15, 2002) - Relive an amazing tale of discovery and exploration in "Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West," when the film makes its area debut at Liberty Science Center's IMAX Dome Theater on May 18, 2002. Two hundred years after their epic journey, go back in time with Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, their guide Sacagawea, and their brave Corps of Discovery, as they encounter the adventure, danger, and wonder of the unmapped West.

Heralding the upcoming bicentennial of the legendary expedition (1803-1806), the film recreates an adventure that remains one of the greatest feats of exploration and discovery in history. The film chronicles the journey into uncharted territory to find a water passageway to the Pacific Ocean and describe for science the wonders of the West.

The expedition encountered and conquered an endless series of physical challenges as they traveled through raging rivers, buffalo-filled prairies, sub-zero temperatures, and rugged mountains on their 8,000-mile journey to the Pacific Ocean and back. The generosity of Native Americans in helping the explorers is detailed, including the story of Sacagawea, a teen-aged Native American girl who accompanied the group and whose contributions were invaluable to the success of the expedition.

With careful research and meticulous recreations, this scientific expedition lives again on the big screen. In Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West, movie-goers will go back 200 years to experience this monumental quest - a grueling journey through thick forests and raging rapids, over towering peaks and plunging precipices - a treacherous trek that was survived thanks to the grace and generosity of the Native Americans who inhabited this unmapped land.

The 42-minute film is narrated by Jeff Bridges, an American movie icon hailing from one of the country's foremost acting families.

Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West is a National Geographic film distributed by Destination Cinema, Inc., presented by Eddie Bauer, Inc. in association with Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation endorsed by the National Council of the Bicentennial.

All IMAX Dome Theater films are locally sponsored by PSE&G.
