Water Problems in Jersey City Boil your Water Alert

There was good news for some residents in New Jersey Tuesday evening, as officials lifted a boil water order two days after a water main break caused problems in Hoboken and Jersey City.

Repairs to the broken 48-inch water main were completed Tuesday afternoon, and a spokesman for the Jersey City water utility said laboratory tests showed water was safe to drink. The state Department of Environmental Protection lifted the order at 4:00pm.

Customers in Jersey City and Hoboken saw reduced water pressure after the main broke about at 1:00pm on Sunday. Pressure had returned to normal about 90 minutes later. The utility cautioned residents they might see discolored water, and asked them to boil it for three minutes as a precaution before using it for drinking or cooking.
